Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) - By Georgina and George
Data Input Device - Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) Device
Description:- Optical Mark Recognition is the use of shading in of boxes of specific areas of a form to represent data. For example, a lottery ticket; the boxes are shaded in according to the numbers chosen. Consequently, the positioning of the paper for reading must be precise. The lottery card has a number of small squares printed on the card, that you colour in or mark with a dark pen. he input reader senses those dark squares and converts them in the lottery number which has been selected.
Advantages:-
Good for inputting large volume of data at low cost.
Very little training or instruction required to use the forms/card.
Good for multi-choice questionnaries.
Dis-advantages:-
Can only input a limited data set.
Poorly marked forms/cards cause errors.
Creased/folded forms cause errors.
Scenario
Describe use
In a school
This is used in schools to mark some tests quicker. It is also used to keep track to see if students are in the school.
In a business office
In a office it could be used for things like clocking in and out, also for checking the amount of stock in the office.
In health care
There is no use for an OMR in health care.
Factories
